Money Whisperer - Be Yourself
Your Greatest Gift
by Nicola Caincross
Following on from the article about your greatest asset - your mind, I would like to talk a little bit today about another great asset you have. You. Your soul if you like, your spirit, the essence of you.
While your mind will enable you to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again, even if you lose everything, it is your spirit, your soul, your you-ness will make you want to do so. here are my top tips to help you to cultivate the very you-ness of you, and so attract wealth and success in to your life.
1. Don't fit in
At school we all pick up that we should fit in, not stand out from the crowd, to be normal; it's a very powerful cultural force. In stone-age days it was a protective mechanism but nowadays it is very limiting and, if you are serious about becoming financially abundant, it's positively dangerous. Many of my clients experience great resistance and negativity when they start to work with me - often from the people that love them the most - parents, spouses, siblings, best friends.
2. Overcome negativity
Often it is people who are better off than you (but who don't know how they did it!) that will caution you the loudest. You will need to be strong to overcome that wall of negativity that will rise in front of you. I used to work in the music industry and it is popularity assumed that you must be a shark in order to succeed. So everyone was busy being sharks and double crossing each other every way you turned. But when I really looked about me I saw that the really successful and admired people were the ones with integrity. The managers who were still looking after their successful acts twenty years on, with no more than a handshake.
3. Be unique
When I attended Dave Buck's seminar at the Coachville Conference in Las Vegas 2002, he planted the seed that, in order to become truly, wildly successful, the more 'YOU' you can become the more you will attract people to you, who can and will want to help you on your road. Dave's website and coaching is all about Flaunting Your Quirks - find Dave at www.davebuck.com and it is an inspirational message.
4. Be free
Building on that, Nelson Mandela set me free to be as great as I know I can be, when I read the following:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually who are you NOT to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fears, our presence automatically liberates others.
Excerpt: Marianne Williamson in "Return to Love".
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Who are you not to be?
Examine what's holding you back
Think particularly hard about the people that brought you up, doing the best they could, according to what they knew, and the people you are surrounded with now. Develop a little antenna on the top of your head that bleeps loudly when confronted with a negative belief, an assumption, or an opinion. Be very aware that people are very free with their advice, and the reason it's free is because it is probably worthless!
Do your own research and make your own mind up. Develop your individuality and your quirks and just go for it.
